ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF YOUTH & DISCIPLESHIP

PURPOSE:

The Associate Pastor to Youth and Discipleship will help our church family declare the gospel, disciple the believer, and deploy our youth and young adults. He will build relationships with middle school, high school, youth parents, and youth leaders so that each group hears the gospel and can build a strong Scriptural foundation to stand upon. This position will have an emphasis on equipping parents as the main disciplers of their children.

He will work closely with Senior Pastor to develop a discipleship process that helps our church family grow consistently as disciples and leaders, across different life stages, while building partnerships between church, home, and the community.

  • A committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving testimony to a saving, sanctifying, personal relationship.
  • A desire to glorify God in every facet of life and ministry.
  • A passion for the Lord, for teaching his Word, for building Christ-centered relationships, and for growing disciples.
  • A commitment to the Word of God, excellence, personal and professional growth, and teamwork.
  • A self-motivated leader that demonstrates strong communication, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, teach, and disciple youth, young adults and congregational leaders.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Christian Education, or Youth Ministry, or another related field.
  • Affirm Baptist Faith and Message 2000
 

RESPONSIBILITIES: (include, but are not limited to, the following) 

GENERAL:

  • Demonstrate leadership, reflecting the character of Christ as revealed in the Bible.
  • Attend church functions, contribute to the spiritual growth and fellowship of the body of Christ.
  • Work closely with the Senior Pastor and staff to carry out the church’s vision and mission.
  • Display your commitment to the church through regular participation and collaboration in staff meetings.
  • Be strong in relationships with congregation.
  • Faithfully teach God’s Word.
  • Demonstrate initiative and judgment as an independent, humble leader.
  • Possess a passion for evangelism, discipleship, and outreach.
  • Plan, organize, and implement related ministry programs.
  • Exhibit ability to raise up, disciple, equip, and empower volunteer leaders
  • Display flexibility in responding to the changing needs of the church.
  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Pastor.
  • Work with denominational and community leaders.
  • All pastoral staff will work as a team to assist Senior Pastor with visitation, including homebound, hospital, senior care facilities, and prospects.

 

YOUTH:

  • Display knowledge, professionalism, and zeal in the field of youth ministry; respected by peers, loved by students and appreciated by parents. This means staying abreast of the cultural genre of students. Sensitive to needs and pressures of youth and young adults, with knowledge of possible solutions.
  • Provide ministry to and with parents of students, helping them develop Biblical skills to live a Christian life in today’s world.
  • Provide discipleship, evangelism, and mission trip training / opportunities for students.
  • Lead, recruit, and train adult leadership to assist in accomplishing desired tasks in youth ministry.
  • Integrate the youth ministry into all phases of the church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational and supportive of other church ministries.
  • Alongside the Associate Pastor to Worship, train up the next generation of musicians and worship leaders.
  • Recommend, oversee the spending of and evaluate the student ministry budget.
  • Be a presence on the campuses of community schools, including but not limited to eating with, attending events, develop relationships with other students, and assisting administration of schools. Be a visible presence in the communities where our students and families live, play, and work.
  • Publish a timely calendar of events and ministry opportunities as they relate to students, parents, and adult leadership.This should be done in conjunction with the church staff and the overall program of the church.
  • Make and maintain close contact with students and parents, keeping them informed and encouraging involvement.
  • Administrate the total student ministry.

 

DISCIPLESHIP:

  • Oversee and evaluate the Sunday School of SBC. This includes curriculum and staffing decisions. 
  • Provide an ongoing process of discipleship which includes leading them to become disciple-makers.
  • Provide and organize special Bible studies such as marriage, family, parenting, finance, men’s, women’s, etc. for SBC.
