3/21/2020 – Administrative Business Council and Deacons Update

Dear Seneca Baptist Church Family,

Members of the SBC Administrative Business Council (ABC) and your Deacons want to address these challenging times we find ourselves in. First, let us say that while this may have taken all of us by surprise, our Lord is sovereign and was not at all caught off guard by this pandemic. In fact, He may well be using it to get our attention and refocus the purpose of His church.

Consider that God may be driving His church, His bride, back to things that have been neglected things like prayer, spending quality time alone with God, spending time in His Word, and looking out for the needs of others especially our vulnerable population. Let us encourage all of you to spend time with the Lord. Pray for our nation, our leaders, our health care workers, first responders, our Pastor and church staff, the ABC and Deacons, and your fellow church families. We ALL need God’s wisdom as we face this pandemic.

‘Social Distancing’ is the new buzz word, but as ambassadors of Christ we are called to be salt and light to the world. Let’s look for innovative ways we can continue to engage with our community rather than draw into isolation.

We all miss gathering together on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. We need each other and the fellowship that we share. We can continue to fellowship and meet needs we just have to be a bit more creative in how we do that. We encourage ALL of you to take advantage of our online services conducted on the Seneca Baptist Church Facebook page. Pastor Ryan and Tom have been faithfully leading us in song, prayer time, and sharing from God’s Word.

The ABC has met to plan how our church can resolve the challenges we are facing. We have explored many options to reduce overhead costs while continuing to provide for the needs of our faithful staff members. However, we encourage you to approach us with any cost saving ideas that the Lord may have revealed to you. We want you to know that the church is ‘open for business’. While we are not gathering corporately, our office staff is continuing to work and our facilities are being maintained. By God’s grace it is our desire to continue supporting our CDC staff for as long as feasibly possible.

This is another area where YOU can help. Just because we are not gathering together in the church building doesn’t remove our financial obligations – like utilities, insurance, maintenance, upkeep, and payroll. Seneca Baptist Church is dependent on your continued giving in order to meet our needs.

Proverbs 3:9 says: “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce.” We can demonstrate reliance on the Lord, we can honor Him, through our generous giving back to the Lord.

We encourage you to continue faithfully supporting Seneca Baptist Church. You can send in your tithes and offerings through the US Postal Service. You can drop them off at the church office. Or you can give online on the Seneca Baptist Church website (www.senecabaptist.org).

We understand that some of you may be facing unexpected financial hardships yourself. If that is you, please let us know so that we can help meet your needs.

Church family you are loved and we long for the day when we can gather together again!

3/17/2020 – Pastor Update
Good afternoon SBC Family,

I want to share my heart with you. I am struggling with trusting the Lord Jesus in these days. I have had to turn off the news and stop reading articles about the virus. It just hasn’t been helpful to my soul. I have tried to use that time to read some good books (currently reading missionary biography of Amy Carmichael – “Let the Children Come”), to read the Bible, and to spend much time in prayer.

During this unprecedented time, we are suspending our weekly schedule through the end of March. We will have no gatherings, rehearsals, or meetings on campus. We will provide an online Bible Study Wednesday nights at 6pm and a Sunday Morning Worship service at 10:30am. We will do this through Facebook Live and then the sermon will be available on www.senecabaptist.org following the service.

Although weekly gatherings are suspended, God is giving His Church a great opportunity to rise to the occasion and shine brightly as a “city on a hill that cannot be hidden.” We might not be able to gather corporately but we have an opportunity to become like the early church; DEPLOYED into our neighborhoods and communities, to minister to specific needs and DECLARE the gospel of Jesus.

Here are some opportunities;
  • Use Facebook and email for prayer requests.
  • Sunday School classes can minister to one another and/or adopt another class to minister to (offer to run errands/ buy groceries/ pick up meds, etc.)
  • Deacons, please call your people regularly.
  • Church members, use your directory to give people a call and encouragement.
  • Sunday school classes could meet as smaller groups in homes for prayer, fellowship, and a Bible lesson (please do so taking precautions and with great wisdom)
  • Sunday School classes could choose prayer partners to pray for daily and check on regularly.
  • Help someone connect to Facebook for services.
  • Look around your neighborhood to see what needs God is placing before you to meet.
Our church office will continue to be open as normal: Monday – Thursday, 8am – 4pm and Friday 8am-12. You can contact us at 864-882-2731 or email: office@senecabaptist.org. We are here to serve you in any way that we can. You can call Pastor Ryan 864-710-6716 should you need us after office hours.
Please continue to give financially. As we move into these next several weeks, we will continue to support our ministries, our missionaries, and the work that is being done through SBC to our community for the sake and the purpose of Kingdom growth. There are three ways you can give. You can give online from our webpage, you can mail in your offering to 1080 S. Oak St, Seneca, SC 29678, or you can bring it by the office during office hours.

There are lots of unknowns, but these things I know;

  • God is for us.
  • God is sovereign and in control of every molecule of creation. He is still on His throne!
  • God has a plan for this time and the trials we are currently facing.
  • God loves us fiercely.

Therefore, I will not fear. Psalm 46 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, and mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, and though the mountains tremble at its swelling… be still and know that I am God.”

Right now, God’s people need to be praying.  Pray for your leaders who make tough decisions.  Pray for those who have gotten sick.  Pray for those who are working for a cure.  Pray for those who are far away from friends and family because of this time.  Pray for first responders who every day risk their lives.  Pray for families who will financially struggle as a result of this.  Pray for people who are afraid.  Pray that the lost would be saved and that the saints would grow in faith.  Pray that in all things God would be glorified. Pray that Christians will be ministers of God’s grace and truth, showing His love and sharing His gospel hope.

God bless you my church family. See you on Facebook tomorrow night at 6pm for Bible study!

Pastor Ryan
